So this factory expansion isn’t about making more cars, but making more expensive cars, which takes more time and requires more space for workshops and storage of exotic materials. The Rolls-Royce Phantom Syntopia's has glass flecks to create sparkling designs. Before that, Rolls-Royce cars were built alongside Bentleys — Rolls-Royce had acquired Bentley in 1931 — at a factory in Crewe, UK. The Phantom Syntopia likely would have cost more than $3 million according to sources, although Rolls-Royce would not confirm an exact price. CNN —BYD is a Chinese carmaker that recently unseated Tesla as the world’s leading seller of electric vehicles. Its new all-electric Yangwang U9 has nearly 1,300 horspower and is designed to compete directly with Lamborghini and Ferrari. As an electric supercar, the Yangwang U9 combines power and performance similar to a 1,800-horsepower, $2 million Rimac Nevera, but in a package costing less than gasoline-powered cars from the famous Italian automakers. Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has said that Chinese EV makers like BYD could “demolish” other automakers as the industry transitions to electric vehicles. ]”A rear view of the BYD Yangwang U9 electric car in Shenzhen, China, earlier this year.

Lamborghini sold more than 10,000 vehicles last year for the first time ever and Ferrari had a more than 17% increase in revenue. But customers purchasing Lamborghinis, Rolls-Royces and Bentleys have an even wider array of infinitely customizable paint colors and interior materials, to start with, than carmakers offer for less expensive brands. If the customer has a favorite shirt, for example, the car paint could be matched to the fabric color. At Dixon’s Rolls-Royce dealership three quarters of the roughly 90 cars sold each year include some degree of custom options, she said. While she and Rolls-Royce’s design team can provide guidance, in the end, the choices have to be the customer’s.

CNN —The Lamborghini Lanzador is only a concept car for now, but the Italian supercar maker says it offers a preview of the brand’s very first fully electric model which will go into production in 2028. With no space needed for a gas engine — in a gas-powered Lamborghini sports car, it would be behind the seats — the Lanzador has small back seats. Other automakers, like Rimac and Automobili Pininfarina (which uses Rimac technology), already sell electric two-seat supercars costing millions of dollars. Porsche — which like Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen Group — took a similar approach with its first EV. Lamborghini has committed to selling only “electrified vehicles,” meaning either plug-in hybrid or fully electric, by the end of 2024.

The Italian brand, a subsidiary of Germany's Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), sold 5,341 cars between January and June, up 4.9% on the same period last year. Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said it was not easy to make forecasts due to market uncertainties, including with raw materials, but added that selling 10,000 cars this year was a "feasible goal". Rival Ferrari (RACE.MI), whose headquarters is less than 40 kms (25 miles) away, shipped more than 13,200 cars last year. Lamborghini is investing 1.9 billion euros to 2027 in its shift to hybrid and electric cars, but further investments are expected. The line-up is set to become all hybrid next year with the new Urus and a new sports car replacing the Huracan.

Lamborghini is all sold out of gas-powered supercars, its CEO told the German outlet Welt. Lamborghini plans to launch its first electric vehicle later this decade. Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told the German newspaper Welt on Wednesday that the brand has sold out its remaining production run of fully gas-powered models, per Reuters. Winkelmann told Insider he is intent on giving Lamborghini buyers the adrenaline-pumping performance they expect — and more — while cutting the company's carbon footprint.

watch nowLamborghini's quick sellout of its new $600,000 hybrid supercar is proof that wealthy car buyers are still spending, according to the CEO. Lamborghini already has a waiting list and two years worth of orders for the Revuelto, its first ever plug-in hybrid that was launched last month, CEO Stephan Winkelmann told CNBC. Every Lamborghini model launched after the Revuelto will be a hybrid, with plug-in versions of the Urus SUV and Huracan sportscar expected in the coming years. With the Revuelto, Lamborghini utilized the best of both worlds, pairing three electric motors with a new 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 engine for a combined 1,001 horsepower. CNN —The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, officially unveiled in Miami Wednesday will be the Italian automaker’s maker’s last purely gasoline-powered supercar. It will also be unlike any Lamborghini supercar before because it’s designed to go off-road. Other Huracán supercars have air scoops on the side but, in this car, the side air scoops are permanently closed. But the concept of the Huracán Sterrato came entirely from inside Lamborghini, said Brokert, as engineers were developing the Urus, Lamborghini’s SUV. Production of the Huracán Sterrato will begin at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, in February.
If anyone still needs convincing that electric cars need not be boring appliances, the Battista is a convincing, if costly, argument. Electric power promises more acceleration and power without tailpipe emissions and, for better or worse, without the cacophony of a V12. But Lamborghini’s current CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has said that a proper electric supercar isn’t possible with today’s technology. The Pininfarina Battista puts his skepticism to the test, but, I fear, Winkelmann may just be right. The Pininfarina Battista has a $2.2 million price tag and outrageous performance Andi HedrickThe fully electric Battista was designed and assembled by a company spun off from the better-known Pininfarina design firm that crafted bodies for decades’ worth of beautiful Ferraris.
